PKM

PKM, one of Scandinavia’s largest flower nurseries, was looking for a solution that would give them the greatest possible reduction in electricity consumption while maintaining high plant quality. The company chose DGT by Senmatic to help them with this task.

PKM has tested the FL300 system for four growing seasons. In 2011/2012, the company grew more than 100,000 bellflowers with the following results::

  • A reduction in energy consumption of up to 25% compared to a 400-watt high pressure sodium lamp system

In 2014, the installation was expanded by 1,500 m2, making it one of the largest LED skylight installations in the world.

Centralized control
FL300 has three unique features that PKM benefits from. Firstly, there is the minimalist installation: the system is as easy to install as high pressure sodium lamps. Secondly, there is the integration, where the LED luminaires are now fully integrated with the climate control system from DGT by Senmatic. Thirdly, there is the plant quality: the plants thrive in the “new light” and have the same quality as – or in some cases even better quality than – plants grown under the old system with high pressure sodium lamps.

Erik Moes, CEO at PKM, says:
“The big advantage of the FL300 is that we can control the light intensity and spectral distribution centrally or via a tablet. And then there is the very large reduction in power consumption.”
